Happy New Year from Buehler’s!

Hope you all had happy and safe holidays! We are thankful to be writing you for another season! The farm has a pretty blanket of snow with lots of tracks right now – snowshoes, cross country skis, rabbits, squirrel, deer, turkey, etc. It’s beautiful – especially when the sun is shinning.
Last year was great fun – here is a little recap (some of you will remember these): ghosts up in the hay field – thanks Diane; snake in the game room – thanks James; glittery, gorgeous pumpkins – great job kids; treasure hunt – I never thought you’d get the sassafras; “…just go toward the rooster … you’ll see what he’ll do” – great video Chris – he screams like a girl; “…oops, it really was an accident!?!” – into the pond; super smores, double smores…”how many of THOSE are the limit?!?” –Gabe; “…how many salamanders do you have in that container?!?” – moms; “… he’s sleeping …I’ll save his dessert for him…”; “…I saw him Mary… he was from here to there … and he was huge …I ran faster than I’ve ever run in my life …I gotta get my gun” – you know who you are!
Just after the New Year we dove right back into schedules, sports, and responsibilities. Thankfully we all have good health to keep us going. Mark placed well at Stowe, VT and is gearing up for Crystal Cabin Fever (www.crystalcabinfever.com) again. Mary is ski patrolling 4 days a week and doing the usual “run around” stuff on the other 3. Alex is into soccer practice and skiing. Olivia is now enjoying gymnastics and is learning how to snowboard – she’s loving it. Gabe is just going with the flow of our schedules this winter and is hoping to join a baseball team this spring – some thanks to Charlie D. with his bases – great introduction and fun!
So the “Big Fish” winner this past season was Bob Neuman. His bass weighed 5&1/2lbs and was 20.5” long. His son Pat had a close runner up.
One of our family guests at the farm opened up “Feliciani’s Authentic Philly Cheese Steaks “ this past year, and they are at 644 Gravel Pke (Rt. 29) in East Greenville. We might be partial, but after having just one (and going back for more) we can tell you – they’re great … so if you’re in the area, or passing through, try them out!
We will be taking on the usual opening projects for the farm for this next season. Usually there is a list of things needing to be fixed which dictates/prioritizes our list. I am knocking on wood right now – presently - nothing major in need of repair!! I know, I know, hard to believe for an old farm. Don’t fret – it’s inevitable. Until then, we’ll plan our usual opening routines, which begin early April.
We know the economy’s state is having an affect on many people. We do have to raise the rates, just a little. However, we want you all to know that we already have a number of families who send a small portion of what their bill will be, whenever they can, and we just add it to their account. I think smaller amounts are easier to swallow sometimes and I am encouraging anyone who will find this helpful to do so. If I have your e-mail, I’ll confirm receiving.
From the kitchen, we’ll try out a few new recipes but make sure to keep the favorites. We will continue to try to cook with less salt and butter (not including dessert ingredients! – sorry … I can’t do it).
As in past years, we ask if you please contact us with your intentions for the season, whether you ARE, or ARE NOT planning to visit Buehler’s. It’s very helpful for us to know by April 15 at the latest. I already have 5 families looking for rooms in July.
We can’t wait to begin – and to see all of you again!

Peace & Grace,
XO, Mary & Mark
